Sharing six different grape varietals based wine
Dan, I’m sharing six bottles of wine to add to your ongoing exploration of new wines. It’s great that you’re trying different bottles and experimenting with food pairings.
I’m happy to share these with you as a fellow wine enthusiast. These bottles are starting to age beyond their prime, so I need to drink them soon. That’s why I thought you might enjoy them. They should still drink well, offering more mature flavors—think earthy notes like mushroom and dried fruits. Just a heads-up, some wines might have lost a bit of their fruit character.
Sharing some information about the wines: From the left
2017 Vinovalie / Dom Brial Terre Métissée
Comments: Winemaker Dom Briol takes Malbec, Syrah, Braucol, Grenache, Négrette, Carignan, and Mourvèdre and creates a spicy, fruity, smooth, and long wine with multiple food-matching capabilities.
2018 Cantina Valle Tritana Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Capostrano
Location: Abruzzo, Itally
Comments: This Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is packed with ripe, fleshy fruit, and its soft tannins lead to a gentle, dry finish. Wonderful with a spicy chili or a favorite lasagna.
2016 Bodegas El Somo Rioja El Domador del Valle Vendimia Seleccionada Reserva
Location: Rioja, Spain
Comments: Tempranillo grape. Feel american oak from this wine. This should be medium body with lots of vanilla flavor.
2020 Adega de Monção Vinho Verde Muralhas de Monção
Location: Vinho Verde, Minho, Portugal
Comments: The Muralhas de Moncao is made from Alvarinho on the Minho River in Northern Portugal. With its extra dose of concentration and an added level of dryness (for Vinho Verde), this wine enters the realm of the serious at a price that is absurd. Ginger-laced fruit and mineral dryness are hallmark contributors to this lean and long dry white.
2018 Louis Jadot Pouilly-Fuissé
Location: Pouilly-Fuisse, Maconnais, Burgundy, France
Comments: Chardonnay. Compared to California Chardonnay, this would taste leaner and less oak flavored.
2018 Louis Jadot Pinot Noir Bourgogne
Location: Burgundy, France
Comments: Pinot Noir. It is an entry level red burgundy from one of the large negotiants, Louis Jadot. I hope it can provide light color with strawberry and cherry flavor.
